Forest: a new approach to better system documentation
The Forest Project aims at building a repository in which
documentation artefacts about any system, and relations between
them, can be stored. From the contents of this repository, documents can be generated and
automatic checks can be performed to find out whether the system is consistent and complete.
Furthermore, three types of analysis (coverage analysis, cost/benefit analysis, impact analysis) can be performed
to provide
status information about the system.
Although the meta model of the repository is currently very simple,
two case studies have shown that it is already quite useful.
During a TU Delft Master's graduation project, hosted at Chess, research
was done to this new documentation approach. The main goal of this graduation
project was to verify that the proposal can actually be used for documenting
systems developed in a business environment.
